ACSA Certificate of Recognition – COR
CKB holds a Certificate of Recognition (COR) from the Alberta Construction Safety Association. Our in-house Safety professionals ensure external safety audits are conducted every three years and perform annual internal COR safety audits along with weekly job site inspections. This focus on safe work has led to CKB achieving a WCB experience rating 85% below industry average, and no lost time injuries since 2020.
Safety Committee
We have a rigorous Joint Health and Safety Committee made up of Representative Members from each crew along with Management Representatives. The committee meets quarterly to inspect our sites, review action items and outcomes from inspections and/or incidents, assists in the review of procedure and policy changes as well as reviewing relevant field information brought forward from our front-line workers. This type of open forum invites free discussion on safety concerns and success stories.
Safety Training
Team members are engaged in ongoing safety training and review to verify that our practices and procedures are up-to-date and, as a minimum, meet regulatory standards.
- Our Green Hand program identifies new workers to CKB and to the Water & Sewer Construction Industry, which enables us to mentor these workers, and identifies opportunities for training.
- The Training & Competency program ensures workers review the relevant procedure, are shown the proper operation, and are monitored by a competent person when learning how to use, store, fuel, and inspect tools and equipment.
- Emergency Response training is vital to our workers, to ensure we are prepared for any possible emergency. CKB crew’s complete monthly mock drills, using real action drills and verbal mock drills to train workers to manage and secure the worksite, administer first aid, evacuate injured workers, coordinate with emergency services, and investigate and report for further training opportunities.
- CKB’s Training Matrix ensures that our team members receive the appropriate training for the work assigned to each role.
